Okinawa Traditional Karate and Kobudo Worldwide Seminar
The 1st Okinawa Traditional Karate and Kobudo Worldwide Seminar was held in September 2013, hosted by the Okinawa Prefectural Government and the Society for the Advancement of Traditional Okinawa Karate. Upon the launch of the Karate-do Hall (tentative name), the seminar was offered to promote Okinawa as the birthplace of karate to the world. The seminar welcomed many karate enthusiasts from inside and outside of Japan. This seminar was different from regular karate seminars where one school of karate offers a workshop. In fact, the seminar offered 6 ryu-ha, including Shorin-Ryu styles (少林流、小林流、松林流、少林寺流), Goju-Ryu, and Uechi-Ryu. The seminar was both groundbreaking and meaningful. It allowed practitioners to learn the diversity and essence of Okinawa karate, present across all ryu-ha. The seminar was highly appraised by the participants, whose comments included, “I’m very impressed to have received training from famous karate masters” and “I got to try different karate ryu-ha and appreciate the differences.” The pictures below show the seminar from last year.
